One of the most dreaded words Acne! Some out there (I am not in that blessed group) barely have to come face to face with the demon called acne. I for one was not that fortunate. At the ripe age of 15 I would get those lovely cystic pimples that I would soon learn would be basically with me FOREVER! Oh yes some say I am being dramatic with the word forever but no its true my mother still gets them on occasion (mom don’t hate me ;)). But what I will say is that I have tried so many remedies from chemical peels, facials, lasers, natural products, over the counter products and the ‘au natural’ no products regimen! I am by no way an expert in skin care, but growing up in a family of dermatologists and Dermato-Pathologists, lets just say I had the opportunity to be the guinea pig. As I entered into pregnancy I thought to myself “OH man maybe pregnancy will CURE my Acne?!?!” Very funny I know, considering with the influx of hormones, even the blessed ones get struck. But all jokes aside, I have gone through my share of routines to try and fix the problem. Although there is nothing I can say or recommend with guarantee, I can at least share my product regimens of old and new and point out what I liked about each. As for facials…I still went for my monthly facials, where extractions would take place and the use of all the items below were part of the treatment as well. I started to add dermaplaning into my skin care regimen during pregnancy because it was a natural way to exfoliate. For those of you unfamiliar with what dermaplaning is,it is a manual exfoliation technique that removes surface debris with a custom derma planing blade. I found this to be extremely helpful for reducing the number of breakouts I had during pregnancy. DURING PREGNANCY FACIAL PRODUCTS Sesha Gentle Cleaning Gel- This all natural product was great during pregnancy. It lathered pretty well to remove any excess makeup and oil and didn’t leave my skin feeling dry, rather moisturized after washing. Thayers Alcohol-Free Toner: Lavender Witch Hazel- The key here is Alcohol free, this way your skin does dry out. This has been a god send for me and something I still use when Im not pregnant. Its a great way to clean the skinny more time after cleansing, to remove any bacteria, oil, or makeup. JojobaOil This all natural oil is the most similar to the type of oil your skin produces, therefore it is great for rehydrating dry areas without clogging your pores. I also used it to take of any eye makeup. Just make sure to cleanse very well after to remove excess oil. Using the witch hazel after will help as well. Sesha Acne Spot Gel- This product was a great alternative to resurfacing wipes because it contains Alcohol to kill bacteria and Aloe to moisturize skin simultaneously. Tea Tree Oil – This all natural oil is great to spot treat breakouts. I suggest mixing it with a little witch hazel to make it less concentrated, this way it will reduce the dryness of the treated area. Sesha Hydro-Soothing Gel– Although it is suggested to use this during the night, I found that I liked using it during the day as well. I would just add some TIZO SPF on top to protect from the UV sun. Sesha A.C.E. Cream for sensitive skin– This product is great for dryer skin. I used it every so often pending on how my skin was. What I found worked for me was to spot treat dry areas with it, this way my skin wouldn’t get too oily. TIZO Solar Protection Formula for Sensitive Skin SPF 40 – As we all know wearing sunscreen the daily is a MUST. Tizo is a great product I used while pregnant and still use to this day. Just keep in mind This product is a little thick, so use wisely.
